Let's assume that you and I are fishes.. 

That our individual world's consists of two separate water bodies..

One small pond, where you have more chance of being the biggest fish than not..

The other is the ocean, where you would be one of the fish, smaller than some, bigger than others, where you aren't assured of being something..

And let's also assume that the said water bodies are connected by a river, flowing from the ocean to the pond. (It's a weird world. Deal with it. :-P )

So, if you decide that you have it in you to fight among the big guys, you should take the route upstream, work your way to the ocean, and then struggle for some more time till you can be stable there..

Or, you could be lazy, stay in the pond, let the other fishes similar to you leave it for the ocean, leaving you to be the bigger fish in the pond..

The best part is, you get to be the bigger fish by doing absolutely nothing (or, by doing nothing more than what's required of you to survive)

I dunno if you get what I say in this post.. I faced this dilemma in the past.. I took the advice of one of my seniors in college.. "You can be someone in a BIG company, or be SOMEONE in a small company." The choice is yours..
